Western Career College
Western Career College ‘s mission is to provide students with a health care education that results in an Associate in Science Degree and/or Certificate of Achievement. The College uses an approach that focuses on skills and prepares graduates for securing entry level healthcare positions and advancing within those positions.
Western Career College’s philosophy is outcome-based, meaning it focuses on retention, placement, and job performance results, and it is flexible and adapts to changing needs. The result is highly qualified and motivated employees that can benefit the health care community.
Western Career College goes beyond skills training; the school teaches students how to think critically, make decisions, gain independence, organize work, take initiative, supervise others, and be responsible employees. Degree programs offer students a broad base of general education course offerings, and these courses provide students with communication, critical thinking, mathematical, and computer skills, as well as perspectives from the sciences, humanities, and the social sciences.
Western Career College offers two types of programs: Certificate of Achievement programs and Associate in Science Degree programs. Certificate of Achievement programs are composed of a series of technical courses that give students the skills they need to gain employment and succeed in the healthcare field. All require an externship, clinical rotation, and fieldwork. The Associate of Science Degree programs include an externship, clinical rotation, and fieldwork, plus courses that expose them to five areas of general education: Communication, Mathematics, Social Science, Humanities, and Natural Science.
All programs at Western Career College require an externship, clinical rotation, and/or fieldwork experience. Fieldwork experience may include unpaid work in a physician’s office, hospital, clinic, or other appropriate work location. Students do not receive compensation because the work is part of their graded educational program. Only after students complete their required hours for this work will they be eligible for graduation. All graduates receive employment assistance from the College without additional charge, and all students receive job search training, orientation to the job market, resume writing, and interview techniques.
Prospective students can schedule an appointment with the Financial Aid Office in order to determine their financial assistance eligibility. Western Career College participates in federal and state financial aid programs, including Federal PELL Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Student Loans, Federal Parental Loan for Undergraduate Students, Federal College Work Study, and CAL Grants. Veterans, and surviving family members of veterans whose deaths or disabilities were service-connected, may be eligible for education benefits while attending Western Career College.
